OK, I guess you really don't know...I need a jukebox and there is really none better than iTunes. I have over 6000 songs in mp3 format and iTunes does an excellent job of cataloging them and playing them. It will also allow the creation of playlists which it will then burn to an audio CD if I so choose.

You think iTunes is crap because you think the only purpose it serves is to interact with iPod. This is a mistake on your part.
*

Anapod allows you to create playlists and comes w/Xtreamer which streams music from your iPod. It's done through a web browser and uses whatever player you like, I use MediaPlayer. Granted, it's not in one clean little package like iTunes or Media Player (which has the same, if not more, features as iTunes), but it gives me more control over my MP3s.
iTunes is perfect for n00bs and people who don't do anything more than rip and play. For me, I do a bit more and that's where iTunes fails. Also, Anapod makes it easier to add album art (if anyone cares) by right clicking the track(s) and downloads it from Amazon.
Now if Apple will add OGG support, I would be happy.

Well I believe that iTunes is "perfect" for just about everyone, or about as "perfect" as a piece of software can get.

I use it for more than just ripping and playing, and as you pointed out, all of it's functions are seamlessly integrated. Then on top of all that add the fact that it can be had free of charge and you have a winner.

I can understand that people will prefer different things, but saying that iTunes is "rubbish" or "crap" as it has been called in this thread is just plain ridiculous.

I have used just about every jukebox program you care to mention, MusicMatch, Real, Windows Media Player, Amarok, Xmmx, WinAmp, you name it. iTunes is head and shoulders above all the others, easily twice as good as the nearest competitor in my opinion.

Ok, i just use Itunes for the use of my over 7500 mp3's. And i found out on the site of Anapod, it's more a program for use with an Ipod. I think it's a well working piece of software, but just if you have an ipod. I will buy one in a short time, but for now i will stick with itunes, even if it's not working very well on my x64 system.

Nobody uses winamp anymore? May not be specifically for 64bit but works fine.

It doesn't really matter what program you care to mention, there will be those who swear it's complete rubbish.

I personally have not had a single problem with iTunes on x64 or on 32 bit windows, I think it's a marvelous program that works extremely well.

There may be other programs that work equally well, but I will never be able to understand those who claim that iTunes is bad in ANY way.

If it doesn't work well on your system there may be other issues, because it works PERFECTLY on mine.  I don't know anyone personally who have any problems with it, and I do know many who use it exclusively.

There isn't any x64 version of Itunes. I think it's very strange that you can't install it coz it normally has to. Maybe you have an older version of Itunes?

Talked with Apple support group........said, sorry..........can't help you........don't support X64 XP at this time. Anyway, I tried every which way, it will not install, even safe mode. Installer gets interrupted and aborts. Had problems with Acronis True Image 9.0 also. I guess this is what I get for purchasing the latest windows enviroment. Lots of software developers are seriously lagging behind what is needed out there right now.

The funny thing is, AMD (64 bit chips) as well as Windows X64 is backward compatible with most applications. It just installs it in a different "program file" folder. So far I'm not doing too good for what I've needed it for.

I managed to install iTuned on x64, though I did so by force. I was just trying to install QT7, didn't want iTunes. Mind you, I don't know if it would have worked or not as I uninstalled it before running. And it did corrupt my Flash player which kept knocking out my sound whenever I ran a Flash animation. But it did install.

actually you are mistaken

If you use it as a multimedia player/organizer - the itunes.exe uses about 13k while it is in use - playing media. winamp does about as much with less functionality.

I dont use an ipod so i disable the ipod service executable. This Gear driver no longer requires an executable (gearsec.exe) to function. So........

you're mistaken.

I am not an itunes or MAC person. It's just the way it is. bigsmilie.gif

frustrated itunes users - please download the 64 bit driver that allows cd burning here

You obviously have some serious problems.

If you don't like iTunes then by all means use what you like. But making disparaging comments about a great program that works well simply makes you seem dumb.

If I feel it's needed then it's needed. There are a lot of iTunes users who feel the same way.

I guess we didn't check with you first, our mistake. ruck.gif

So, just out of curiosity, exactly what program would fill my perceived (though obviously I must have been deluded) need? If it's not needed as you say, then what else could I use?

If you think that anapod explorer can replace iTunes than you must be foolish.

As has already been explained in this thread, a jukebox program is needed. A song catalog program is needed. Anapod explorer does not fill these functions. At all. iTunes fills these needs very well and does more besides.

Are you so dense as to believe that your "needs" are the only legitimate "needs"? If you feel that something isn't needed then others should also feel that way?

You are as arrogant as you are dumb.
