Could someone please help me??? i just bought a Pavilion dv2000 with vista pre-installed and the webcam doen't work properly...when i install the webcam using the latest driver it doesn't apper on scanners and camers in control panel and everytime i try using MSN messenger with the the messenger shuts down.It only works on Quickplay and even in that it sometimes open a black screen where the camera should be and when this happens i have to uninstall the camera and reinstall it again..does anybody else have this same problem or found a way to resolve it??? I think maybe it's a driver issue... |

I'm experiencing a similar problem. I bought a Pavilion dv9030ea (AMD Turion 64 1800Mhz X2) and I recently updated it to Vista. It came with XP pre-installed but since I bought it just after christmas '06 I managed to get myself a free Vista upgrade (which was nice). Anyway, I'm experiencing a similar problem. My webcam simply doesn't want to work any longer than a day... or a reboot or two. When I check the webcam in Windows Live Messenger, I get the following message: QUOTE You cannot change your camera settings because either your camera is not plugged in to your computer or you are using it in a video call or with another program This is hard to believe because 1) it's built into the top of the screen, so I can hardly remove it and 2) I can't get it working anyway, so surely I couldn't be using it in a video call. I've already checked Device Manager a number of times and it claims that the webcam's working perfectly. I found that by uninstalling it and reinstalling it, it's blue light comes on and it starts working perfectly! Unfortunately, this isn't for too long. I'm glad that someone else is experiencing a similar problem (I doubt the camera is any different in a dv2000 compared to any in the dv9000 series - mine is 1.3MP btw just in case there is a difference) so I thought I would post to let ridi know that he/she is not alone here. I have provided a link below to the driver that I used to try to get it to work, just in case you or anyone finds it useful. I have quickly checked HP's website and it seems that the same driver is used for the dv2000 series of laptops (those with built-in webcams, anyway). http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...093&lang=en Anyway, if anyone could help us out with this problem, it'd be muchly appreciated!!! BTW The webcam will not appear under "Scanners & Cameras" in the Control Panel anyway. I have Vista on my desktop PC and have a Microsoft Lifecam VX-6000 in it, which works perfectly and doesn't appear under that category in Control Panel. However, my HP Photosmart R967 does appear there when it's attached to it. It seems that Microsoft's definition of "Cameras" is actually "Digital Cameras" and not webcams. |

I've been looking a little further into the issue and have found the file(s) which seem to work better for me at the moment. I have attached them to this post in a .zip file which you will need to extract. You will also find these files at the link to the official HP website that I provided in my last post (just in case you don't trust the file I've put up May I suggest some guidelines for use: 1) Extract the contents of the attached zip file to c:\drivers\ 2a) Run DPInst32.exe to install the 32-bit drivers (DPInst64.exe exists for those with the 64-bit version of Vista on their laptop) OR 2b) Run Device Manager and update the driver for the webcam by manually pointing the installer towards c:\drivers\ I did the latter and it's working for the moment, and I thought I would share my findings with you all in case it comes in handy.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. I downloaded the files you attached but have been unable to find these files on the HP website so I can confirm you're not out to crash my computer Thank you. My problem is the camera works on MSN but not quick play or the muvee software so I cannot take a picture or record video etc. I've been looking a little further into the issue and have found the file(s) which seem to work better for me at the moment. My problem is the camera works on MSN but not quick play or the muvee software so I cannot take a picture or record video etc. I actually just got it to work. Download the updated webcam drivers from the HP sites, and after installing them, search DPInst32.exe on your computer. It should show up in C:\SWsetup\SP34746\DPInst32.exe. Run this and reboot and it finally works in muvee and quickplay. Cheers! Greg EDIT: AH, it only worked for like one use. Now it's back top being undetected when using muvee....it actually never did work on quickplay. Maybe it woulda if it was the first app i tested it with. HELP. Hi gcam! Try the technique that I used. It may be of some help:
Best of luck to you all! [[EDIT]] I didn't know that the webcam could be used in quickplay but I've just checked and it works there too This post has been edited by zxon: Apr 16 2007, 06:40 AM |

Wow! 56 downloads to date and no further replies. Does this mean it's working for you all? Just to note, mine has gone off again and I'm experiencing the same problem. Has anyone got any alternative solutions to the ones I outlined above? |

i'm experiencing the same problem. webcam started to fail after latest update from HP website (02/07). before that it worked prefectly with WinXP drivers (now installing this drivers do not help :-(). I tried many different options including calling HP support (silly me ;-)). anyway, not sure what the solution is. happy to hear it is not a hardware problem as i started to think lately. the way to jump start the camera without rebootingit, is to go to device manager, disable the camera and then enable it back. this usially turns it on - not for long though :-(. keep us posted... Hey so I went and uninstalled the camera, and then went to restart the laptop. And when I restarted the laptop, a small bubble appeared in the bottom right corner and it was like "Installing Drivers for hardware" Or something like that. Then it still doesn't work when I try to run it. Any help? email me or respond here XsorrowfoxX@yahoo.com |

HP has a problem working fully with Windows Vista. I've talked to both HP Sweden and HP United States and they are aware of the problem with their built in webcams. Mainly the webcams work fine except for when trying to record something, then sound is ok but it speeds up the recordings picture. So there's not much more to do but to wait for HP to find a solution and use a external webcam while waiting. I do hope they hurry but because this doesn't look good for HP. Selling to many laptops each day and all comes with Vista now and then not one have a functioning webcam... |

Recently, I had the chance to install Windows Vista on a number of HP laptops with the built-in web cam. The first thing I wanted to do was test out the laptop's web cam since it had been staring at me all throughout the simple installation. After a little exploring I noticed that there wasn't a clear program that allows operation of the laptop's the built-in web cam and so I decided to write a few help pages for the HP Pavilion laptop camera issues with Vista. Hopefully this will help someone out or at least provide the link to the site that helps some of you out. |

Mainly the webcams work fine except for when trying to record something, then sound is ok but it speeds up the recordings picture. I've not had a chance to try this myself but I found this on the HP site forums as a workaround for the speed problem Add registry key following below instructions: 1. Type RUN in search field on Vista programs menu and press "Enter" to launch it. 2. Type regedit and click OK to launch the registry editor. 3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTES\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-81OF-11DO-BEC7-08002BE2092F} 00 4. Click "Edit" in the menu, select "New" then "DWORD" 5. Type UvcFlags as the name for the new word and press "Enter" 6. Right-click "UvcFlags" and select "Modify" in the menu 7. Type 10 in the box then click "OK" 8. Close down registry editor and reboot the system |

This fixed the problem for me. Vista Ultimate 32-bit edition HP said to me via email that they would have something official released in the near future to address this problem. any chance you could provide a link to the forums that discovered this fix? I would like to read more about this problem I've not had a chance to try this myself but I found this on the HP site forums as a workaround for the speed problem
