HOWTO - USB Flash BIOS Key Method BIOS must be able to boot to USB bootable devices. Not all MBs have BIOS versions with USB as a bootable option. Double check your Manual if you are unsure if this option is supported.
The only right method to Flash BIOS is still with the old good Floppy and for shure it will stay so for the next few years. To Flash from USB or CD is OK, but much more complicated and I recomand this as some kind of last solution. If somebody says Flash from Windows, sorry but he doesn't know what he is saying, but I will forgive him. Aries, you know how much I like those step-by-step guides! And this one is great! Thanks.
BTW... why not to flash from Windows? I do it that way and it is easy and fast method.... no problems at all (forgive me). |

Flashing from a floppy is better because the operating system (usually DOS) on the floppy is much less prone to crashing. As for me, I prefer just flashing the BIOS manually with some copper wire and a 9 volt battery, but that's just how I roll... |

teehee
I got lucky and found a program to flash my USB-Flash Drive (128MB)-shows up as USB-HDD to act as a USB-ZIP flashdrive (why it mattered in the bios.....i don't know...don't know why the Bios would not do it any other way) so i guess i will link what i found, everyone says use a Win98 or WinME floppy boot disk, well I could not seem to get the files to even extract to just a directory, from here: http://www.bootdisk.com/ second I tried searching Google and came up lucky http://aaltonen.us/archive/2004/03/01/tip-...b-key-addendum/ but ignored the majority and just went through the comments, found this: http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm <best assortment and amount of Win98 boot files, CD-rom support, ect... and found the right program to flash the USB drive, since the HP tool apparentlly does not work no more(at least the one i downloaded) for the USB Flash Drive http://www.prime-expert.com/flashboot/ Flashboot, sadlly appears to be a shareware program.... anywho that one worked, no problems, and i flashed teh bios the reason i needed to flash bios, better support of things possibly, but mostlly due to CPU-Z (1.31)either missnaming or not correctlly getting the CPU-ID which still says Clawhammer.......I would show pictures, but XP 64 and my keyboard's PrtScn key just does not seem to work right now, waiting on Intelli-type/point 5.5 |

Add your bios flash program and bios update file, and your set. Boskey |
