Hi All,

Please could someone help me locate the 3 missing drivers for my Laptop to make it efficently run in Win64.

I have found all drivers expect:

Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adapter
HDAudio Soft Data Fax Modem With SmartCP (Foxconn)

The Third Driver I need (I Believe I Need) Is the Monitor Driver, I have managed to install a Modified version of ATI Mobility Cats to support the ATi Xpress 1100 Graphics Card that came with the laptop, however the Acer has a 15.4" WXGA Screen and the resolutions arent Quite right. I think the correct resolution is 1280x768 however with this resolution I have to pan across the screen. I could be wrong here and need correct ATI radeon drivers.

BTW Laptop Links Here
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/noteb..._5100_5110.html (Win32 Bit Only)

Many Thanks In Advance.

hi, XenShocker

if that's the 15.4" wide screen the resoloution should be 1280 x 800

there's this post in laptops about using Ferrari 4000 drivers that may be useful

X64 Drivers for an Apire 5003

I am thinking of buying an Acer Aspire 5102 so am interested if you can get everything working with X64, I have been reading the post in this forum and did come accross others that had the WiFi problem so do some searches.

I can't believe how companies are so out of the loop with 64 bit drivers, I constantly read posts about talking with tech support, and getting a run around, I always try to get transfered to someone in developement who actually knows what X64 is. They are just so behind especially when they claim to be Vista ready, It just goes to show if there isn't money to be made they just aren't interested til its too late.

Keep us posted on your progress

Well Some Progress!!!

The screen resolution was 1280x800 your right, I did try that but It looked odd last night - May have been my eyes what with all the searching for drivers e.t.c hehe, but screen and video is perfect now, Thanks.

I did read the Links that you provided, unfortantly nothing of use. I tried a different search method when drilling down the INF file it said it used a file named "ar5211.sys" for driver base so googled this and after 30mins or so found a Edimax 64bit version of this "ar5211.sys" file here :

http://www.edimax.com.tw/download/drivers/...-7325Ig_X64.zip

Wi-Fi Now fully working!

All I need now is those Modem drivers (Which aren't too important - however nice to finish the set).

Once I find them I will format again do a fresh install and install all the drivers again that I have located to double make sure that it wasnt a fluke or just hit-and-miss.

Thanks

Hey that's goodnews,

Wifi is the heart of a laptop communication these days, a modem is good to have as a back-up for emergencies, or travel, but I can't remember the last time I plugged a computer into a phone line.

How is the performance?

Maybe you can post a zip file with the drivers and any instructions you think would be helpful.

Enjoy

I am using the Atheros 5005G Wireless Network Adapter drivers from Gigabyte (DriverGuide.com supplied), and this works fine ... faster than other notebooks on my 54G WiFi network.

I too have issues with the Video Adapter driver and will try the ATI Mobility CATS driver. My main issue is the missing PCI Flash memory drivers and the missing driver for the Turion 64 CPU ... so claims device Manager.

I'll try the video driver and get back to you.

I tried the Ferrtari drivers with my Acer 5101WLMi to no effect. I think the best support comes from ASUS (I have two of their m/boards and they cannot be more helpful). Acer are the worst ... almost like they have somthing to hide (like the insides of a $1200 notebook could be the same as a $4000 notebook .... we aren't stupid and know that mostly they are <lol>. We have Acer machines at work at the moment ... and they are simply awful.

Hi All,

Status of drivers for Acer Aspire 5101 WLMi widescreen (specs follow)
? Processor: AMD Turion 64 MK-36 (2GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 1600MHz FSB)
? Hard Drive: 60GB
? Memory: 1Gb
? Optical Drive: DVD Super Multi Drive 8X
? 15.4" LCD Wide Screen
? 56Kbps Modem - HDAudio Soft Data Fax Modem - No driver
? Atheros AR5005G Wireless LAN (Using Gigabyte driver to good effect)
? Integrated speakers
? UMA Graphics - ATI Xpress 1100 with 128Mb memory No driver
? 5-in-1 card reader No driver
? Missing the PCI Flash drivers and ATI SMBus drivers. I feel that this is a Windows x64 issue.
? USB Optical Mouse

Bring on Vista I say, as Windows XP x64 seems not to be supported by Acer ... and if that doesn't work I am heading for Red Hat Linux which I know DOES work on my other 64 bit machines.

Any advice gladly accepted.

Does anyone have the graphics and audio drivers for the Aspire 5102? The graphics are the 'ATI Radeon Xpress 1100'. :)

Tom: I keep finding my way to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html (provides 1150 drivers) given that the Ferrari 4000 drivers that some others have used actually worked for them (but not for me with the 5101 AWLMi Turion MK-36 CPU). The Ferrari 4000 drivers for x64 can be found on the Acer UK site.

Hope this helps.

Right everyone, thanks for your help. Where can I find the wireless drivers for the Acer Aspire 5102? I had them, but have lost them. They are the Atheros AR5BMB5, and they are for Win XP X64. :)

Thanks,

Tom :)

The missing the PCI Flash drivers, listed under "Other Devices," is XP x64's response to not recognizing the 5-in-1 card reader. If you go into Device Manager, highlight each PCI Flash Driver one at a time, it will show you that each of these resides in the same physical location as the corresponding components of the 5-in-1 card reader. If you're able to find the 64 bit drivers for the 5-in-1 card reader, you should be able to install these manually to the corresponding PCI Flash Memory components. I have not been able to locate these yet. XP x64 is also missing the High Definition Audio driver.

The components I'm missing drivers for are the following:

ENE CB-712/714/810 Cardbus Controller,
ENE PCI Memory Stick Card Reader,
ENE PCI Secure Digital / MMC Card Reader Controller,
ENE PCI SmartMedia / xD Card Reader Controller

On my Aspire 5102 WLMi, I have another device listed under "Other Devices." It is "PCI Serial Port." I suspect this is the Connexant HD Audio Soft Data/Fax modem; but I haven't been able to verify this using the same mapping technique as described above; however it is the only other component that was not recognized by XP x64.

BTW, much to my suprise, the trial version of XP x64 recognized my Broadcom 802.11g WiFi device, my Realtek RTL 8139 Fast Ethernet Adater, and my SlimType CD/DVD RW drive right out of the box and installed the appropriate drivers. I have verified that the WiFi is functioning correctly. Boy was I impressed.

The only driver that worked from the Acer Aspire 5003 driver set was the ATI Graphics driver. This took some fiddling, but I managed to get it to work. I also still need the TouchPad driver since the Acer Aspire 5003 driver didn't work.

Have you tried looking in the Windows Programs folders for the installed devices? I have an Acer Aspire 5102 WLMi with XP Pro MCE. When I looked in these folders, many of them had x64 driver Setup programs, including the modem. I tried the modem Setup program but it didn't work. The Setup program responded that the device could not be located. I know this to be true from checking Device Manager. XP x64 did not recognize my Foxconn Conexant modem to begin with. Device Manager doesn't list it at all.

I hope this is a Windows not a BIOS issue.

Cheers, John

For wiereless drivers on Acer Aspire 5100 Windows Xp X64 just use the following files atached. There are not on the orig. cd. For the video+motherboard use the latest ati x64 catalyst drivers but fefore MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL Microsoft framework 3.0 for Windows XP X64(64BIT) edition.
Modem - still searching
Touchpad - still searching
Thanks!

**Well I finally got the Foxconn Conexant Modem installed. I must say I stumbled into quite a bit of good luck. It appears the problem with XP x64 not recognizing my modem was indeed an update issue. When I ran Windows Update not only did XP x64 recognize my modem, but it installed the UAA High Definition Audio driver as well. Over the past week, I've had a difficult time locating a driver package for this device; but fortunately, the answer was right under my nose. As I mentioned previously I did some digging around in the Windows Systems folders and discovered the following folder, "swsetup" (all lower case), right in the root directory. And it contained the following folders:

C:\swsetup\RealTek
(This appears to have the 32 & 64 bit installation software, which I haven't tried yet).

C:\swsetup\SP35272\NetWaiting
C:\swsetup\SP35272\WinXP
C:\swsetup\SP35272\WinXP64

and the executable:

C:\swsetup\SP35272\Setup.exe

I copied the entire folder to my Desktop on the D:\ partition, where XP x64 is installed; then ran Setup.exe from that folder. The installation failed, but I then installed the driver manually with Device Manager, being certain to tell it that I would "Install from a list or a specific location," "Don't search. I will chose the driver to install," and that I "Have Disk..". This then installed properly and loaded what appears to be everything I needed. I also verified that the modem was functioning by running the "Modem Diagnostics," which were successful. The driver file is listed below:

C:\swsetup\SP35272\WinXP64\"SprtHD6m.inf"

BTW, when I emailed Acer regarding eventually releasing the 64 bit drivers for this Notebook; I received a response email from someone, who appeared to be in India based on her name, that Acer intends to never provide or support 64 bit drivers for this model. "Thank God" they were at least complacent enough to leave the 64 bit drivers on the HDD.

Cheers, John
