I downloaded the patched tcpip.sys files, but it doesn't work for me, my BitTorrent client wouldn't even connect to more peers which is really annoying. What am I doing wrong? I've copied it into the system32\drivers folder and rebooted but the problem is still persisting. Damn Microsoft for doing this.

^^^^^^ look in your eventlog to see if ther are any Event ID 4226 errors when you are doing some HEAVY torrenting ... if there are then it is not working ... Personally i have been using the modified tcpip.sys since sp2 and i have not had a single error .. :)

That still doesn't tell me if i want to know what my max current half-open connections are? I just want the number like it used to tell me with Event ID.

Im stil getting EventID 4226 using 1000 connections file.
TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.

Searching through some pages I found a patch ( doing manually) to tcpip (ID4226) of SP2.

TCPIP.SYS 5.2.3790.3959

HEX(Offset) MOD Original
00000148 1B 26
00000149 7E 7D
000B85CC FF 0A
000B85CD FF 00
000B85CE FF 00

The first two (148 & 149) are the checksum of the file, the others are the limit.
If you want to use a smaller limit, you need to calculate the correct checksum again, I use pechksum to calculate it. edit it & replace it in Safe Mode.

I used windHex to edit the file (see attachments)
I'm posting mine tcpip.sys already edited.

PS.: If post external links are against the rules, any mod can edit my post.

PS2: Right now, I'm using eMule & uTorrent in the same time without any warning.

Converting from hex to decimal, FF FF FF is equal to 65535. I guess thats the limit of the file posted ( i did not the tuto - the link proves it), but with uTorrent & eMule( more than 1000 sources) toguether i do not get any warning.

If you want use a lower limit, you need make a new checksum & inset in the file ( in the 2 first hex positions). I use that one without problems. I posted the edited tcpip.sys already patched ( im using in my own machine) for me folowing the steps of the tutorial.

Sorry for my bad english - thats not my primary language!

ranting.gif ranting.gif please.gif READ: To all the people who downloaded my 1000 connection tcpip.sys (ver. 5.2.3790.3959) that i posted before .... Due to a miscalculation on my part i set the max half connections to 59395 instead of 1000 ... Thanks to Pender666's post below i checked it and found my mistake so i have uoploaded a new tcpip.sys with the right connections ie. 1000... Those who dont want to open up to 59395 connections should re-download and replace the file immediately .... I apologize for my mistake... :)

Anyway .... Pender666 ( .. also to everyone ).. make sure you reboot the machine after replacing the file to reload the driver .. b4 torrenting ... :) if you still get 4226 errors after rebooting post here and i will see if i can find a problem .... :)

nice , but can't download now

Is there a chance to get these files reposted? Currently, none of them are available for download.

You also have to set the number of half-open ports/connections in your BT client. I know for a fact that you can do this in BitComet and Utorrent (highly likely for Azureus too, but I've never tried it.).

Sorry I only have Utorrent installed, so I can't help with telling you exactly where in the Options it is located. My idiot friend found the setting in Bitcomet so it shouldn't be too hard.

Hey All, might sound like silly question but how can I tell if the replacement of my tcpip.sys file with the patched version was successful? I mean, apart from waiting for another EventID 4226, how can I tell if I now have set the half-open allowable connections to 100?

Eagerly awaiting any responses. Thanx.
