Hey all, haven't been here in awhile. Looked around and can't find this on the site.

I have a external Maxtor HDD for my 32-bit laptop and love the Safety Drill backup software.

Unfortunately, their automatic backup software is still not compatible with x64. Grrr. dizzy.gif

Do any of the external HDD manufacturers come with x64-compatible backup software?

Thanks.

Nice review! Thanks. It looks like the Seagate Manager software is exactly the same as the Maxtor Manager software I use now on my laptop with the Maxtor Mini except for branding. If so, I'm very pleased because I love that software. It's much easier to use than the old Retrospect software that came with the pre-Seagate-owned Maxtor OneTouch (and was not 64-compatible).

Is it possible to backup two different desktops on the one external HDD? Not to sync, just to have one external for two PCs.

Thanks,
You should be able to but you would not want to do it by simple backup or use the personal folder option on both systems
Seagate and Maxtor merged so it is the same software but updated and refined to work with x64 :)

Well my Seagate FreeAgent GO arrived today. I excitedly hooked it up, the installation began, I selected English and Install Seagate Manager, the InstallShield setup wizard was preparing to launch and I got this:

But you can get the new software from Seagate

The version number I got from right click/properties on the exe file itself. I can't locate the actual software version because I can't install it. I don't know where else it would be located.

The email to them kicked this back:

Ok something is not right.
I will contact Seagate and ask them to check this thread.
I have been using this app to back up on a schedule since I started the eval.
I will find out what is going on and get some answers

Okay, thanks so much. I really appreciate it.

I did submit the support request anyway and got a ticket number. They said someone will get back to me in 24 hours. The attachment was one of those "see if this answers your question" deals based on the keywords in my email, I guess.

I'd hate to send it back.

Seagate is going to have an engineer look at the thread and get back to me with an answer I will relay it to you as soon as I get it.
