Ok before I start here are my system specs:
-------------------------------------------- MOBO: GA-K8N Ultra-SLI (Socket 939) CPU: XP 3000+ (X64) RAM: 1x1gig Kingston HD: 1x150 GIG SATA2 VGA: Nvidia 6600 GT OS: XP Pro x32 (Retail), XP x64 (Retail) MOBO FW-Version: F2 (just tried changing this) -------------------------------------------- Ok I have read a ton on this site and have found a lot of usefull information but nothing to quite conquer the problem with which I am currently faced. I can start Setup and finally figured out to turn off the Raid options in the BIOS so I don't have to do the F6 load the SATA drivers. (although this error is the same regardless) Now when I boot I can see my drive and I can see the chuck of space I have set aside for the X64 OS. I have one partition running the X32 OS and one for data and now I am trying to install X64 on a 40 gig chunk. When I select the 40 gig space it gets to the format screen and then gives me the message: -------------------------------------------------------- "Setup Cannot Format the Partition" Your computer may not have enough memory to examine the drives, or your windows CD may contain some corrupted files. ---------------------------------------------------------- As I eluded to I have tried re-enabling the RAID and using the F6 driver load and I have used the latest NVIDIA boot disk provided in the download section of this site. The results are identical. I had NO issues installing the 32 bit version. As an attempt to work around the issue I have used partition magic to format the space and attempted to install to that pre-formated drive.... The message is different yet the same ----------------------------------------------- "Setup was unable to verify drive f:" Your computer may not have enough memory to examine the drives, or your windows CD may contain some corrupted files. ------------------------------------------------ I am at my wits end here does anyone have a suggestion? I have also downloaded the MSDN ISO and tried to burn it. Same results. Thank you in advance for pointing out the obvious mistake I am probably making. If you don't think it's the disc, then maybe try deleting the partition and reforming it. I didn't have any problems when I installed x64 on another partition and it was only 25Gb or so.

Also I tried a different SATA drive and I get the same thing. I am so frusterated I don't understand why it is acting this way? I have built hundreds of machines and never had a situation quite so frusterating and appearantly beyond explaination. Did you use a DVD or CD/RW drive to install from? |

one thing i would check is if it is a logical or primary partition, im not sure it would make a difference or not though i have never seen that message.

If you can partition it with another computer and see if you get the same error, that way you can verify if its the drive or not.

ANSWER: I tried a USB DVD drive instead of my CDRW and it works like a champ. Appearantly this disk doesn't like my CDRW drive although I have had it for a year and never had an issue. Oh well thanks to the group for helping me figure this out. Hopefully now if someone has the same issue they will know what is going on.

could be that the built in drivers for XP64 do not read the SATA CR-RW correctly. if I remember right they were not fully supported until 6.56 for Nvidia
that would be enough to cause issues I am glad you got it sorted out though. |

Hey all, I hope in some way this helps...
Nye64, you hit it on the head when you decided to use a non-cd/rw drive. I don't know if there is some incompatibility, or as Athildja said a lack of support. What I do know is that I was stumped with this same problem today. I spent the majority of the day pouring over forums where people had encountered this error. All were seemingly related, but I never saw a "fix" for the situation. Anyways, your comment about using an external drive made me curious. I feel incredibly stupid for not having done this before, but all I did was used a different drive in my rig and it works fine. Originally I had it in the LG cd-rw. I moved the install cd to the HP dvd+-rw and that's when it worked. Here's the specs: AN8 AMD64 3200 Venice 2x1 gig Corsair ValueSelect 1x120 gig SATA Maxtor Fujitsu 3 1/2 FDD HP 300 DVD+- RW (slave primary) LG 52x32x52 CD-RW (master primary) Radeon X800GT 256 DDR3 500W Ultra PS I don't honestly know what was the cause, but the remedy was as simple as using a different drive. I would love to see someone with more knowledge of the programming code dive into this one. This post has been edited by Stypen: Nov 1 2005, 10:59 PM |

This problem has happened to me with 32bit XP and it was a cd/cd-drive mismatch problem. Maybe something to do with the cd media. |
