I am sure anyone who has worked with linux/unix etc will know what I am talking about but I was wondering if there was some similar utility out there available to use deprived windows users.

So here I am trying to hit 4 ghz on air preferably with a 1800 mhz fsb with memory running at 1066 mhz. I think its doable but my motherboard never had the bios upgraded ever since I bought it. So it was running on v1. So the memory bit was the unstable bit and I figured I will update to the latest v8 bios and see what happens. Now there's a few ways to update the bios as I am sure many of you already know. I figured I would try it with the nvidia esa tool. ALl you do is clear your cmos point to the bios file and it flashes it for you and voila. But before you do that dont forget to reset your bios settings to factory default.

No problem did the bios default setting reversion and then I found out I remembered I have a raid 0 setup therefore my raid is now disabled....if not destroyed lol. Panic ensued, I go back enable raid in the bios, and to my relief I see it detects a healthy stripe raid and it boots but halfway through the xp loading process it freezes. Panic again. Then I realized I have W7 RC laying around. I figure I dont have a choice other than installing that. So I install that.

I am basically up and running with a new OS in 15 minutes. Detected my drivers for the most part and it was great. Now I have an oclock of 3.6 ghz and 1600 fsb and 1066 memory but I am going to see if I can hit 450 fsb and 4 ghz.

Thank god I got all my stuff back from the hard drive!

I like Windows 7 so far. It is taking a bit of me getting used to its nuances and things being moved around but oh well. I am gonna try to install some games on it and enjoy some DX 10 goodness after I get my oclock done.

Anyone following it at all?

There are some awesome games coming up in the horizon. AC2, Crysis 2, Mafia 2 to mention a few! PC gaming has never been better!

So it looks like out of the 2 cards I got one of them has serious issues. 1 card stays within 38C temperature and the other is close to 60C. I think the fan is busted on that video card. I guess now the question is to figure out which one. I have asked newegg for an RMA in the meantime.

With GPU-z it says card #1 is busted. Am I right in assuming that card #1 is going to be the card that is installed in the slot closest to the CPU? That is at least what my hunch is anyway.

I am wondering if I have adequate cooling in my case and I should because I have one fan in front of the hard drive bays, 1 in the back of the case, a vent at the top of the case and 3 fans on the side panel. All are 120 mm fans! So that should not be a problem I think. Besides I had 2 8800 Ultras running just fine in there and if I am not mistaken they make quite a lot of heat as well!

Ah anyway I was hoping to play a bunch of games this weekend but argh. I must say I am quite disappointed and sad and bummed out. :(
