Linksys WRTG54G v5 cannot surf Internet con Vista x64


Hi, I have a Linksys WRT54G v5 router with latest firmware. On Windows Vista x64 I Network conections says that I have Internet access, as a matter of fact Windows Update works fine and downloads some update without any problem.

I tried on two onboard network cards thai I have on my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum: Nvidia NForce 3 and Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC. I tried also installing a PCI Realtek network card and no luck at all.

The thing is IE7, MSN, and any application that tries to access Internet cannot connect. IE7 says "address invalid". However on IE7 64 bit surf internet perfectly, everything else fails to surf.

Same router is working fine on Windows XP x64 Edition and 32 bit.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

try setting your ip address information manually. primarly the dns setting. it should be the address of your router.

I tried to set on Nforce TCP/IP properties asigning prefer DNS and alternate DNS and even asigning IP, subnet and default gateway and was not able to connect to internet.

Anyone has the same router and is able to surf internet on Vista x64 without a problem?

I dont think my version is v5 but other then that I have that router an no problem, however I think your problem is the firewall, sounds like the problem that has been around for along time on nvidia boards did you install the net manager an firewall?

Yes I have that Router, made by Linksys, What do you mean it was not included in your pakage?
the nvidia firewall is a hardware based firewall, the idea of it is great, I just dont like the software for it, which is installled with the nvidia drivers for the chipset, unless you specifically tell it not to.

I didn't know that I have a firewall besides Windows Firewall, if we are talking about any software I don't have it installed on Windows Vista. If we are talking about nForce driver and if firewall is embeded on it don't know how to deactivate.

Yes that one has it, when you installed the nforce drivers it should have asked you if you wanted to install net manager. go to add remove programs nvidia, it should say something like remove all nvidia or list certain ones, look for net manager an firewall.

I haven't installed any Nvidia nForce drivers on Windows Vista Ultimate x64, i'm using Microsoft default drivers, so I don't have any Nvidia related programs/drivers to remove.

Problem solved. I reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows Vista Ultimate x64 and everything is working as expected. Thanks for your help.
